There is no Better time in October to Photograph Polar Bears in the Tundra – This is an amazing time to visit Churchill!
Churchill is a small town with only 800 residents. There is no road access, therefor all tourists and supplies must be transported by air or train into Churchill.
Beginning in October each year, polar bears gather here to wait for the sea to freeze and start their hunting season!
At this time, Churchill’s nickname “more bears than people.”
Tuesday, october 24th
The VIA Rail train ticket has been prepared in advance, arriving at 123 Main Street, Winnipeg, Manitoba (Winnipeg Train Station) by yourself on Tuesday, October 24th. take Train 693, departing at 12:05 (Central Time) to Churchill. Starting the first day of the polar bear tour.
Wednesday, October 25th
Since the train takes 1 day 20 hours and 55 minutes to reach Churchill, the team member has enough time to organize the camera equipment and winter gear.
Of course, the one thing you cannot miss is watching the Aurora appear at night.
Thursday, October 26th
After a two-day journey, the excitement of seeing the train slowly enter the platform is unforgettable.
At 9:00 am Our staff will warmly welcome you at the Churchill VIA Rail train station to start the first day of the polar bear tour.
After check-in, the 3 hours of photo tour being, first to visit the ‘Eskimo’ Itsanitaq Museum, followed by the Polar Bear International research facility and Park Canada Visitors Center, also Learn about the lives of local residents and experience local customs.
Friday, October 27th
At 8:30 am our team members will have Full Breakfast at the seaport hotel
The 3 hours Photo tour will begin at 9:30 am, led by experienced photographer, Angela Mak, cruising in her mini buggy visit all of Churchill’s fascinating local historical sites including Cape Merry Batters, Miss piggy plane wreck, Polar bear jail, the MV Ithaca shipwreck, member will have a break at the Northern study center and continue to visit the rocket research range, abandoned ‘Golf Ball’ radar station, and launch road, where it is sometimes possible to view polar bears and other Arctic wildlife.
Angela will film tourists along the way, and the photos will be given as souvenirs after the trip.
During the shooting process, wild animals will suddenly appear around you at any time
After completing the busy journey of the day, a 2-course dinner will be prepared at the Seaport Hotel at 6p.m. for all group members to enjoy.
Sunday, October 29th
At 7:30 am, we will begin our special, small group (16 maximum) tundra buggy tour to view and photograph the majestic polar bear. From the Iceberg Inn, we will journey to the Churchill Wildlife Management Area and spend the day in the realm of the polar bear. We will have ample opportunity to quietly watch these animals as they go about their day. Lunch will be provided on the tundra buggy.
Tundra Buggy Day Tours include expert interpretation in the Churchill Wildlife Management Area about the wildlife and the magnificent ecosystems surrounding the subarctic environment of Churchill. You will have the opportunity to explore the open tundra while your driver discusses the effects of tides, currents and ice formation on the polar bears. Our interpretive Tundra Buggy Drivers are experienced tour leaders and passionate adventurers who are are skilled at positioning the Tundra Buggy for optimal photography opportunities and wildlife viewing. Wildlife you spot may include polar bears, arctic hare, arctic and red fox, gyrfalcon, ptarmigan and much more.
Monday, October 30th

Tuesday, October 31st
Iceberg inn is specially leasing a exclusively Tundra Buggy for this special private photo tour, since we chartered the whole buggy, team member will have a lot of time to taking their photo, the driving route and parking angles are fully directed by our instructor.
A simple breakfast of coffee and toast will be served at 06:00AM in our lounge area
After Breakfast around 7:00am, experienced photographer, Angela Mak. will led a cruise in her mini buggy and heads to the tundra area for an exploration tour. The Official Tundra buggy will lead the group to track polar bears in the tundra area. During the process, they can either chase the bears or stop for a while to let the group members silently “ambush” to shoot wild animals.
After completing the busy journey of the day, a full-course dinner will be prepared at the Seaport Hotel for all group members to enjoy.
Wednesday, November 1st
45-minute flight tours customized to meet your expectations and desires.
An unforgettable flight across the taiga, tundra, and boreal forest take you into the realm of the polar bear. Rarely seen polar bears up to 681 kg (1,500 pounds) rest and test their strength while patiently waiting for the sea ice to form.
Leaving at 7:30pm by Train on November 2nd or 12:45 by Calm Air On November 1st, 2023
